Objectives
– Define the concept of health promotion and historical evolution, identify components and ethical principles underlying its practice;
– Identify paternalistic vs enabling policies and other approaches;
– When and how to apply quantitative and qualitative methods in needs assessment, planning and research in health promotion;
– Apply a systemic and participative planning model to a specific public health problem;
– Design, plan, implement and monitor an action-research project for a specific domain and context;
– To evaluate a process, results and effectiveness of a health promotion program (measure the level of participation, partnerships, impact in the population health and achievement of the desirable changes).
Subject matter
– Historical evolution of the concept of Health Promotion. Ethical values.
– Biomedical and salutogenesis approaches.
– Practical implications of the principles of health promotion.
– Appropriate use of qualitative and quantitative methods to the problematized issues.
– Action-research in health promotion.
– Community intervention and participation. Needs assessment and priority settlement
– Application of PRECED-PROCEED model in the systemic and participatory planning in problem solving in public health.
