Objectives

The students should be able to:

 

a) Identify the key concepts of Risk Assessment and Management in Occupational Health;

b) Know to analyze work in its complexity of the interrelationships and interdependencies of the elements that make each work situation;

c) To apply methods of identification and assessment of risk factors in order to estimate the probability of adverse health effects;

d) Participate in the implementation of management measures (or control) of risk in Occupational Health and Dsafety;

e) Identify the importance in occupational risk assessement.

Prerequisites

- Bachelor of Medicine.

- Fluent English reading.

Subject matter

1. Essential concepts of risk assessment. Dose-effect relationships and dose-response. 

2. The classification of risks according to severity and probability of adverse effects; 

3. Diagnosis of risk situations: the identification of occupational hazards. Concept of threshold. The threshold limits values. The assessment of exposures. Acceptability, tolerability and intolerability of risk;

4. Risk management: the main instruments. The planning, organization and implementation of occupational hazards  plans and prevention programs; Methodologies of risk management. Occupational Heakth and Safety Audits.

Individual proof (short answer) contributes with 60%, group ork with 20% and the continuous evaluation with 20%.
