Education objectives
1) To acquire theoretical knowledge of the History of Art, both international and Portuguese, from Antiquity to contemporary times;
2) To master the concepts and basic methodologies of History of Art;
3) To acquire skills to analyse and identify works of art;
4) To develop conceptual and critical abilities towards artistic objects and their contextualisation;
5) To acquire the ability to use knowledge of the History of Art for civic and social intervention;
6) To apply knowledge of the History of Art when reflecting upon the cultural identity of different societies;
7) To master appropriate knowledge of the History of Art to work within the fields of Museology and Heritage Studies.
Access conditions
Students may be admitted to Higher Education through the National Competition for Access to Higher Education, special competitions/regimes and entry systems, re-enrolment systems, course changes and transfers. Degree pre-requisites
Duration: 3 years/6 semesters.
Students must perform 180 credits: 120 credits based in the compulsory curricular units, 30 credits to be chosen in a set of elective optionals and 30 credits undertaken in free-elective optionals or in a minor of another scientific area. Every semester, the student may not sign up in more than 30 credits, respecting the precedence when these have been set. At the beginning of each semester, students will be advised of the curricular units to carry out in order to appropriate them to their academic career.
The undergraduate students can still benefit from the different mobility programmes in which FCSH/NOVA participates as Erasmus +, Almeida Garrett exchange programmes, among others, and participate in research within the research units of the Faculty.
Access to other courses
Completion of the licenciatura degree allows the holder to apply for Masters programmes, or other post-graduate courses including those which do not confer a degree.
Evaluation rules
Students at FCSH are evaluated based on the work developed over a semester, based on class participation, presentation of written and oral tests and examinations. The result obtained either by continuous assessment or evaluation of the tests is expressed on a scale of 0 to 20. To be approved, students must have at least 10 points to pass, however, who fail have a second chance to repeat the exams. SPECIAL PROCEDURES FOR EVALUATION: - Worker-Student - Students with the status of top athletes - Mothers and fathers students - Associative leaders - Military - Other special arrangements provided legally. Students with special needs can benefit from teaching and learning conditions to meet their needs.
