Education objectives
1. To broaden and deepen previous knowledge in the area do Language Sciences, with a particular focus on Portuguese;
2. To critically evaluate different theoretical proposals in the various domains of Language Sciences;
3. To apply the theoretical knowledge acquired in the development of research on various languages;
4. To use new technologies and apply or develop news products for research in areas such as language acquisition and development, language impairment, language teaching, linguistic consultancy, translation, dictionaries and publishing;
5. To develop new strategies and apply new technological resources in professional activities related to teaching, oral and written communication, advertising, production of didactic and lexicographic materials, among others;
6. To write an original paper (thesis / work project essay / traineeship report) for the completion of the masters’ degree.
Access conditions
1) As provided in paragraph 1, article 17 of Decree-Law No. 74 of March 24, 2006 and republished by Decree-Law . 2) Applicants meeting the requirements of academic and curricular expressed in paragraph 1 of this Article shall be selected taking into account the following criteria: a) degree classification; b) academic and scientific curriculum; c) Professional curriculum; d) Possible interview
Degree pre-requisites
Length: 3 semesters. Total credits: 93 credits (60 in course units of the study programme + 33 in the non-taught component). Types of non-taught component: Dissertation or Project Work or Internship with report.
Number of credits from free-elective optionals: 30 credits (the student can obtain 30 credits from elective options in course units taught at post-graduate level at FCSH/NOVA, or at any other national or foreign higher education institution under agreement or protocol.)
Access to other courses
Completion of the Masters degree allows the holder to apply for the cycle of studies which leads to a Doctorate Degree. For the specific access requirements for doctoral programmes, consult the regulations governing the doctoral programmes at FCSH/NOVA.
This course is recognized for career progression purposes of recruitment for teachers of group 200, 300, 310, 320, 330, 340 and 350, as provided in the Statute of Teaching Career.
Evaluation rules
A final grade, expressed as a number between 10 and 20 on a scale of 0 to 20 as well as its equivalent on the ECTS grading scale, is awarded for the post-graduate diploma. The final grade of the post-graduate diploma is the average, by credit, of the grades obtained in the course units in which the student obtained the 60 credits from the taught part of the Masters course. A final grade, expressed as a number between 10 and 20 on a scale of 0 to 20 as well as its equivalent on the ECTS grading scale, is awarded for the Masters degree. The final grade of the Masters degree will be the average of the final grade of the taught part of the course, weighted to 40%, and the grade awarded to the dissertation, project work or practical work experience report, weighted to 60%.
