Objectives

a) To acquire knowledge on key concepts, approaches and methods of Political Geography;
b) To understand the relationship between territory and policy different scales, from global to local;
c) To grasp the meaning of geographical representation for the explanation of political issues;
d) To comment texts on political issues from the point of view of discipline;
e) To identify the geographical representation in political discourse in a broad sense, at various scales;
f) To apply the acquired knowledge in professional activity upon contact with the powers in place as well as target populations at local and regional scale.

Teaching method

Theoretical and practical classes. The students have several opportunities to participate in the discussions during classes.

Evaluation method

Reading of selected references – the interpretation and comprehension of these selected references will be tested on a writting exam (70%);
Group work – the students will have the opportunity to analyse different perspectives, concepts and theories on the subject of regional and urban economics (15-20pag) (30%).

(According to the FCSH Assessment Standards, the proposed evaluation elements to introduce students in the first class may suffer readjustments, particularly in the percentage of each element).
