Objectives
a) To create a support a professional practice based on solid Spatial Planning (SP) knowledge
b) To knowing and understand the relation between SP and Environment, from a theoretical and practical point of view
c) To understand the relationship between SP and environmental policies, at different scales
d) To know the origin of the concepts related to SP and their evolution, at national and international level
e) To know the available territorial analysis techniques regarding problems and threats in SP
f) To understand the various components of SP, scales, planning resources, and main actors in the planning process
g) To understand the relationship between the objectives, problems and solutions in SP, in the context of the available planning instruments
h) To analyze the connections between the acquired theoretical concepts and the professional practices related to SP
i) To develop a critical approach on the Portuguese SP politics.

1) Spatial Planning as a fundamental practice to promote Sustainable Development: national and international contexts.
2) Different techniques and scales for territorial planning and Spatial Planning.
3) Portuguese Spatial Planning Scheme: existing instruments and their interaction.

Teaching method
Teaching is based on FCSH e-learning platform where all materials and recommended reading are available all materials and recommended reading.
A Welcome presentation is available at the beginning of the semester with the CU objectives, the program, the general bibliography, the evaluation criteria, and the scheduling of activities and evaluation. For each LU exists an introductory presentation that contains its goals, contents, specific bibliography and a detailed description of the application exercises.
There is a weekly chat session in which students can interact with teachers in real time. The session log is available on the platform. Participation is optional, not counting for evaluation.
Evaluation method
Evaluation is done continuously, by conducting individual work and participation in discussion forums (e-learning system) [(50%), 10% each of the five learning units - see 6.2.1.8] and a final exam (in person) (50%).
