Objectives

1. To understand the meaning of Classical Art
2. To recognize the presence of a pre-classical artistic world
3. To get acquainted with the artistic contribution of the pre-classical mediterranean world
4. To perceive the geographical (space) and chronological (time) conditions in the making of Classical Art
5. To assess the Greek contribution for Classical Art
6. To understand the intercommunication between Civilization and Art
7. To apprehend the Hellenistic world
8. To learn about the etruscan world
9. To distinguish the Roman contribution for Classical Art
10.To highlight the role of Classical Art in the formation of European Art
11.To exercise the lectures´ theoretical contents in the oral argumentation and written organization

Teaching method

Classes will develop the issues listed in the Syllabus. The use of images will be the point of convergence of the theoretical lecture.
Students´ supervision in the selection of bibliography and development of academic assignments (Reading records; book reviews; school trips´ reports; observation sheets; oral and writing research work; oral discussion); supervision of the specif work of the Art historian regarding observation of images and direct contact with the artwork.

Evaluation method

Written test ( 75 %);
Reading record (10%);
Oral argumentation of texts and images in classes; reports on school visits, or other (15%)

Courses
