Education objectives
From the point of view of the Information Systems, Smart Cities can be seen as living organisms where monitoring and processing a large amount of data in real time, over a city’s activity, is critical. Therefore, the idea of city metabolism has gained notoriety, inspired by biological concepts, to show that a city is a growing fabric and it expands like a living organism.
This context brings new challenges for Informatics, setting important goals such as the development, the implementation, and the conception of new approaches, tools and methods, to transform the cities into a more habitable place for every society groups.
This problem can be addressed facing three main strands: Services, Analysis and Participation, with the purpose of, subsequently, integrating the results in an informatics toolbox, to be adopted by cities in order to develop IT systems supportive of smart cities.
The postgraduate program in Smart Cities answers to the need of a higher education in a key field to the development of the national economy.
