Objectives
The objective of this course is to complete the study of basic topics Microeconomic theory. Equity issues are explicitly addressed, too. Is placed on the application of microeconomic concepts and tools to the design and evaluation of real life problems.
Prerequisites
Compulsory pre-requisites:
- Principles of Microeconomics
- Microeconomics (recomended)
Subject matter
1. Extensions of consumer theory: inter-temporal decisions, labor supply, choice under uncertainty
2. General equilibrium and welfare
3. Market failures (asymmetric information, public goods, externalities, market power)
4. Equity concepts and measurement
5. Balancing efficiency and equity concerns: alternative formulations of the Social Welfare Function.
