Objectives

This course outlines the available historical experience regarding design, creation and establishment of business activities. The business experience of the 20th century will focus on big companies and their longevity, as well as the series of paradigms of management methods, types of organizational behavior and strategies of big firms.

Prerequisites

Subject matter

Historical overview of the creation of the modern company, transaction costs, and the rise of the great company, according to the Chandlerian perspective. This analysis is made through the comparison and evaluation of modern companies in different countries; this course also evaluates the development of international business of multinational companies since the middle of the 19 th century. The relationship between the company and the state will be seen under an historical perspective, considering not only the different types of regulations, but also the rise and decline of state companies.

Finally, the differentiated companies functional areas such as corporate finance, marketing, organizational structure, operations management, strategy and human resources, will be studied under an historical perspective.
