Objectives
By the end of the course students should be able to:
1. Critically discuss the social and economic determinants of mental health, namely gender, age, culture, employment, education, poverty, housing and urbanization.
2. Know and analyze the results on the prevalence and burden of mental disorders, and co morbidity of mental and physical disorders, and discuss their implications for mental health policy.
3. Understand the components of public mental health and the types of interventions addressing the general population, vulnerable groups, at risk populations and individuals.
4. Analyze the results of research on stigma and discrimination, utilization of services and treatment gap, as well as barriers in implementation of effective interventions.
5. Develop research projects with adequate methods in the area of public mental health.
