Objectives
a) To acquire and consolidate knowledges in music theory;
b) To connect theoretical issues and repertoires of different epochs of the History of Western Music,
reconstructing their sound images;
c) ) To develop technical slills in musical writing and analysis.
Prerequisites
Subject matter
1. Introduction to music theory: concepts, methodological, terminological and historical issues.
2. Pitch. Tempo and rhythm. Tonality and modality. Diatonic system. Major and minor tonal varieties. Relative
scales. Circle of fifths. Chromatic system. Modality and the transposition of modes. Diatonic and chromatic
intervals: classification. Triads and its inversions. Seventh chords and its inversions. Harmonic functions.
Cadences. Modulation.
3. Exercises of musical writing, and hearing analysis of didactic examples and excerpts from Western music.

Teaching method
The teacher will expose the theoretical contents of the program. The practical component includes written exercises, listening to musical examples and analysis of the corresponding repertoire. Lessons are both theoretical (20%) and practical (80%).
For a sucessful learning, audio-visual media will be used: PowerpoInt, music auditions, etc.
Evaluation method
Evaluation elements are a written test covering all the program (70%) and a written test of listening skills (30%).
