Subject matter
Anthropology, anthropologia transcendentalis and anthropologia existentialis
Anthropologia transcendentalis calls into question all the many forms of anthropology. And anthropologia existentialis calls into question all non-existential anthropology. But why is it that anthropology needs to be transcendental and existential? These questions are central to Philosophical Anthropology, which has to resolve this conflict. Our aim is to discuss all this, and in particular:
a) The structure of what Kant would have called anthropologia naturalis
b) The connection between anthropologia naturalis and anthropologia artificialis
c) The main turning points in anthropologia artificialis
d) One common denominator between anthropologia naturalis and anthropologia artificialis: the scala naturae
e) The main steps in Kants foundation of anthropologia transcendentalis
f) The main steps in Heideggers foundation of anthropologia existentialis: the existenziale Daseinsanalytik

Teaching method
This curricular unit has a theoretical-practical character.
The teaching methodology combines:
a) the theoretical analysis of philosophical problems and concepts
b) a thorough interpretation of the philosophical texts in question (with special emphasis both on their connection with the problems and concepts under discussion, and on interpretive issues, etc.)
and
c) the discussion of alternative views, objections, counter-examples, etc.
This curricular unit is designed to give participants the experience of working, as it were, in the laboratory of philosophical thought. Particular emphasis is also put on the discussion of questions, objections, related issues, etc. during office hours.
Evaluation method
Individual evaluation. Obligatory written test (2/3). Each student will have to present a written work on an approved topic and discuss it with the lecturer (1/3).
