Objectives
a) Introduce the students to the praxis of comparative literature;
b) To develop critical thinking and the ability to relate different artistic expressions;
c) To develop the ability to perform pluridisciplinary analysis as cornerstone to the understanding of complex cultural phenomena in Humanities;
d) To develop the ability form individual expression;
e) To develop the ability to apply acquired knowledge to complex contexts.

Narrative, myth, and tópoi
1. Introduction to comparative literature
2. Comparative theories and praxis
3. Narrative as a form of cognition, communication, and literary expression.
4. The basic elements of narrative.
5. Myths as collective multifunctional narratives.
6. Myth and the creation of fictional possible worlds.
7. Fictional tópoi and their relationship with the actual world - construction and reconstruction of fictional worlds.

During the lectures the students are informed of more detailed bibliographical references considered either as essential or useful for further and future studies.
Teaching method
1. Theoretical lectures to introduce theory (60%)
2. Comparative analysis in collaboration with the students (40%)
Evaluation method
1. A test (50%);
2. A short individual essay with bibliographical research (50%);
3. Presentation of short commentaries by the students.
