Objectives
1) To be acquainted with the main theoretical and methodological questions in the field of Literary, Cultural and Interart Studies.
2) To develop written and oral skills at both comprehension and production levels, with a special focus on reading, critical analysis, and autonomous research.
3) To reinforce reading competences, theoretical reflection and argumentation skills applied to different types of text and different media, thus developing the students ability to compare, to build up relations and to identify theoretical problems through the critical analysis of a selection of works.

Subject matter
The syllabus will consider the relations among different arts in the Portuguese 20th Century by focusing on forms of presence, in Film, of writing and Literature. In the first section, we will consider a set documentaries on writers and literary works, or features dealing with the same issues, in order to discuss Film´s representation of Literature and the challenges of writing in Film. In the second section, we will consider the possible dialogues between Literature and Film in three major clusters: 1) Camilo Castelo Branco in the work of Manoel de Oliveira; 2) Robert Desnos in the work of Pedro Costa; 3) Film in Carlos de Oliveira´s oeuvre and Carlos de Oliveira´s oeuvre in Film.

Evaluation method
Evaluation will be the result of three different elements: two classroom written assignments and a paper on one of the topics in the syllabus.
