Objectives
a) To know in a general but comprehensive way the German history;
b) To identify the key moments in German history;
c) To understand the development of European cultural and political structures, notably the European nationalisms;
c) To acquire the knowledge to identify and discuss the specificity of the German-speaking space in the European context.

Subject matter
In the middle of Europe
The course aims to provide a general and comprehensive view of Germany in the European context focusing on key moments of its history:
1. From the Middle Ages to the eighteenth century: religious, political and epistemological fractures
2. The nineteenth century: the unstable stability or political unity and the wars
3. Contemporary Germany: From the Third Reich to reunification
