Objectives
a) To improve the linguistic and cultural knowledge of different (con)texts in Social Sciences and Humanities.
b) To develop practical translation skills in the above-mentioned field.
c) To enhance the ability to evaluate critically different translations of one same source language text.
Prerequisites
English language skills (level B2.2.).
Subject matter
1. General problems when translating texts pertaining the Social Sciences and Humanities.
2. Translation of source language texts and analysis of their linguistic and cultural contexts.
3. Analysis of possible lexical/vocabulary choices, style, pragmatics, etc.

Presentation of the Social Sciences and Humanities to be explored; regular translation practice, identifying the problems raised by each text; analysis of/comparison between different translations/versions, whenever possible.

Evaluation method
Translations done in class without prior preparation; oral presentation of translations of previously assigned texts (50%); one written test, done in class (50%).
