Objectives
a) To identify the social construction of concepts such as childhood and youth;
b) To put into perspective the medias representation of children and young people
c) To analyze the different dimensions of media use by children and young people in a generational perspective.
d) To identify research on children and media, placing it within historical contexts and paradigms of research.
e) To identify, collect and critically analyse different kinds of documents related with the topic;
f) To produce a final work on a topic of the seminar.

Part I: Media and modern construction of childhood- Emergence and consolidation of the modern concept of childhood in industrialized societies
- The media and the modern construction of childhood.
- The Portuguese context
Part II: Media and childhood in contemporary societies
- Childhood in the context of globalization. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child: protection, provision and participation rights.
- Children and screens, from the television set to the mobile digital media
- Methodological and ethical issues in research with children.
