Objectives
a) Reconhecer a importância da interdisciplinaridade na análise das Catástrofes ambientais
b) Compreender as diferentes escalas a que ocorrem estes fenómenos
c) Apreender as diferenças de magnitude e de ocorrências das catástrofes ambientais a nível global
d) Avaliar os efeitos da ocorrência destes fenómenos na Sociedade
e) Analisar o tipo e frequência das Catástrofes Ambientais em Portugal
f) Desenvolver e aplicar os conhecimentos adquiridos no diagnóstico e na prevenção deste tipo de fenómenos
g) Interpretar de forma critica e analítica textos e dados.

Subject matter
1) Introduction to the concepts of risk, hazard and disaster.
2) The different types of environmental catastrophes and its spatial distribution.
3) Geologic, climatic, hydrological, biological and technological catastrophes, causes and consequences.
4) The forecast and prevention.
5) The importance of the geographer in the diagnosis.
6) Participative methodologies and of perception, on the study of environmental catastrophes.
7) Future perspectives.

Elaboration of a research work on one of the program topics (80% of the evaluation)
Oral presentation (20% of the evaluation).
