Objectives
1- To enhance the students knowledge of the functioning of various urban real estate markets;
2- To familiarize students with modern market research methodologies at the macro and micro analysis
levels;
3- To prepare students to develop and use real estate market studies;
4- To understand the role of planning policies and developers in the recent evolution of urban centers;
5 -To discuss the impact of new urban paradigms both in planning and real estate industry;
6- To know the main phases of real estate development process;
7- To provide the students with the basic analytic tools that are critical to understand the real estate
development;
8- To analyze the recent evolution of the urban real estate markets in Portugal;
9- To built bridges between territorial planning and real estate industry.

Teaching method
Expository lectures by the teacher and / or with the participation of guests to present case studies about
some topics of the program.
Analysis of reports of firms specialized in real estate.
Discussion of concrete cases of real estate development from the perspective of planners and
developers.
Presentation by the students and class discussion of their proposed research topics (work).
Monitoring the development of tutorial work, individually or in groups.
Evaluation method
The assessment includes:
a) A written test (40%);
b) Preparation of an assay (15-20p), based on independent research (35%);
c) Oral presentation and discussion of the work (15%).
d) Continuous evaluation of participation in presentations and discussions in class (10%).
