Objectives
a) Identify the concept of Human Ecology;
b) Acquire skills in the specific dynamics of human populations and how these relate to each other and with the environment;
c) Identify major contemporary social problems linked to the ecological perspective.

Subject matter
The Curricular Unit is structured on the relationships between population, environment and society and is divided in two modules:
Module 1 begins with the definition of the Human Ecology concept, in order to develop the specific ecological perspective applied to human societies, underlining the need for compromise between the Social sphere and Biosphere behaviors.
Module 2 focuses on the emerging problems in a society marked by globalization process and its risks, and addresses some major contemporary ecological issues.

Teaching method
The course will be taught using the b-learning method, which includes the presentation of topics by teachers in the classroom, and students self-study through the provision of study material, available in Moodle (www.fcsh-elearning.edu.pt).
Conferences held by experts of recognized merit in specific areas with relevance in the political and social agenda.
Evaluation method
Preparation of proposed activities and exercises available in Moodle (50%);
Exam (50%);
Students must attend all classes, except in cases provided by law.
