Objectives

a) Develop autonomy and research skills related to youth movements, educational reforms, emergence of academic elites, migratory movements and the social, economic and industrial growth.
b) Develop critical skills by analysing clichés and stereotypes
c)Develop the ability to expose the acquired knowledge deepening the linguistic competence.
d) To be able to deal with the diversity of attitudes and behaviours in the interaction with Germans and other communities living in Germany.

Prerequisites

Subject matter

1. The social development focusing the relevant events in the 19th and 20th centuries.
2. The multicultural society of the second half of the 20th century and the linguistic and otherwise cultural influencies.
3. The sociopolitical changes resulting from reunification

Teaching method

Course time is devoted to group work, class discussions, readings and critical writing.
Students are expected to read relevant critical texts in German. This kind of work is subject to a evaluation of 60% and a final research paper or a written essay in class will be another evaluation tool, 40%.
