Objectives
a) To acquire knowledge and competence in the field of the teaching of Latin;
b) To develop methods and techniques of research and argument in this field of studies;
c) To engage in specific aspects of the teaching of Latin, especially in regard to grammar, vocabulary and techniques of textual analysis and translation;
d) To prepare lesson plans within the disciplines.
Prerequisites
Subject matter
1. The presence of Latin in contemporary Portuguese language;
2. Secondary School Latin textbooks;
3. Specific aspects of the processes in Latin teaching/learning: reading texts; discussing different aspects of the text: grammatical, and cultural; using the dictionary; translation and interpretation of texts;
4. Study of some texts by authors from the programmes used in Secondary School and the elaboration of new teaching materials;
6. Preparation and planning of teaching materials.

Teaching method
Each section of the programme will be presented by lecture. Learning will take place through research projects and written essays.
Evaluation method
Planning classes (final essay): 70 %;
Active participation in class: 20 %;
Organizing a file including main themes as well as students class and work materials: 10 %.
