Subject matter
The cycle of studies, leading to a PHD degree, is constituted by an original investigation in Musical Arts, which can contribute to enlarge the frontiers of knowledge.
It includes:
- a written thesis, as a result of an investigation in Musical Arts;
- the public presentation of an artistic work, adequate to the goals of this degree of studies. This presentation has two parts: a recital, the final result of all the artistic work done along the course; a conference-recital, that pretends to show, in a practical way, the relationship between the written thesis and the artistic presentation;
- the written thesis and the artistic presentations have a close relation, about the same subject and with the same investigation process.

Teaching method
This cycle of studies is done in as autonomous way, under the scientific and artistic orientation of one or more teachers.
Evaluation method
His evaluation is done by a specially nominated jury.
