Objectives
The aim of this discipline is to integrate the student in the current research and practice of conservation projects, ongoing in the department, in order to immediately grasp the complexity of the work in this scientific area.
Each student has as tutor another master or doctoral student and has as supervisor the responsible for the Laboratory and overall coordination of the discipline held by its responsable.
Students will be assigned by the following laboratories and programs:
1. Scientific Lab.
2. Ceramics and Glass Lab.
3. Metals Lab.
4. Painting Lab.
5. Graphic Documents Lab.
6. Photography Lab.
7. Biodeterioration of Stone and Preservative Conservation
8. Documenting to Conserve Program.
At the end of the semester the student should be able to: i) use the bibliographic research tools, resorting to reliable sources; ii) reveal organizational capabilities and comply with the safety and hygiene rules, necessary to the conservation work; iii) reveal the critical capability that allows differentiation between acceptable and inappropriate conservation measures; iv) properly convey the knowledge acquired, through an oral presentation and a written report.

1. Relevant Conservation and Restoration institution: the main functions and publications.
2. Introduction to Bibliographic research: research on the Internet and specialized databases.
3. Introduction to research methodology.
4. Organization methods in the Conservation and Restoration Laboratory.
5. Hygiene and safety principles at work
6. Introduction to Preventive Conservation techniques.
7. Initiation on basic conservation practices.
8. How to do a report and presentation methods.
