Objectives
Through UROPs, the student will have contact with scientific research environment and gain knowledge of how research projects work. The student will develop skills in presenting and explaining research results, and transferable skills of working in teams, oral and written communication, and independent learning. Depending on the specific project chosen by the student, (s)he will acquire specific knowledge on the subject area and, possibly, also some specific technical skills in the project area.
Prerequisites
Throughout their academic training at a more propedeutic level, the students should have already acquired the basic knowledge and tools in science and engineering, namely in the areas of mathematics, physics, chemistry, materials science and informatics.
Subject matter
The concrete syllabus depends on the specific project chosen by the student in the program.
Bibliography
Since the students will be working in different areas according to the research project chosen, so the teaching materials will be selected taking into account the specific research subject.
Teaching method
The scientific committee of the study cycle keeps a list of UROP offers, for the participation of students in research projects. Each entry in the list must present the research project in which the student will be integrated, the work plan for the student, and the name of the scientific supervisor.
The student chooses one of the UROP’s offers. If several students choose the same offer, it is up to the supervisor to select one of the students.
The student carries out the work plan along the semester, with special incidence in the period between the end of exams and the beginning of the next semester.
Evaluation method
The assessment is made by a final report, describing the activities and results obtained. The assessment can be complemented with further information collected by the supervisor during the activities
