Objectives
To introduce first year students to the thematic of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, their relation with the society in general, opportunities and responsibilities of a Chemical and Biochemical Engineer.
The students should acquire competences on mass and energy balances in chemical process

Subject matter
The program of the discipline consists of lectures and problem-solving sessions.
1. Lectures. Introducing to Engineering Calculations. Processes and Process Variables. Material Balances in Single-Phase and Multiphase Systems. Energy Balances on Nonreactive and Reactive Processes.
2. Problem-solving sessions. Resolution of problems on material balances and energy balances.
