Objectives

It is our aim to instruct the students in advanced electrochemical methods and fast kineticas used in scientific research and industry. The student should be able to acquire theoretical concepts hand in hand with practical methodologies.

Prerequisites

None.

Subject matter

Introduction to electroanalytical methods. Some Basic concepts (nomenclature, concentration and activity, Nernst equation, electrode potential and formal redox potential) and discussion of experimental methods. Electrochemical cell, electrode materials and reference electrode. Equilibrium and dynamic measurements. Current magnitude: electron transfer and mass transport. Convectional and diffusion control. Potenciometry. Ion selective electrodes and its application in pH measurement, and biological significant compounds determination. Amperometric and piezoelectric sensors. Introduction to Coulometry and Faraday laws. Spectroelectrochemistry.
