Objectives
At the end of this course the students will have acquired the hability to:
-Plan the experimental work
-Report correctly their results
- Critically analyse the results and approaches
-Discuss their results in the broader context of the research project
-Describe and discuss their results in a written report
Prerequisites
To be registered in the Masters in Molecular Genetics and Biomedicine.
Subject matter
The content of the course is related to the research project assigned to each student, who should complete a set of tasks to be accomplished in 32 h in lab. The goal is for the student to get acquainted with the large research project of which his/her specific tasks form a small part and to understand how his/her results contribute to the general objectives of the project.
Bibliography
The bibliography will vary according to the research project assigned to each student.
Teaching method
The learning process will take place mainly in the lab under supervision of the researcher involved in the project assigned to the student. Planning of the work and discussion of the results are expected to take place during the lab sessions in a flexible manner. In addition, the student is expected to study the suggested papers and other bibliography in autonomy.
During the course of the work, the performance of the student will be evaluated taking into account his/her attitude and motivation as well as ability to plan and perform the work and discuss the results. At the end the written report of the work will be discussed with the student and evaluated.
Evaluation method
Evaluation of the student´s performance will take into account the report produced (40% of the final grade) and the performance of the student during lab sessions (60% of the final grade) taking into account the following issues:
-Interest, motivation, attitude
-planning and preparation of experimental work
-lab journal
-ability to critically evaluate the results
