Objectives
KNOWLEDGE: Identify the causes and describe the mechanisms of syndromes and diseases relevant to technologic innovation. Describe and interpret the main methods of funcional evaluation
SKILLS: Develop the skill to work in multidisciplinary teams with health professionals.
COMPETENCES: Develop the ability to apply knowledge of pathophysiology to the devolopment of new technologies with relevance to the functional evaluation of diseases.

Teaching method
Theorical course
Thirteen interactive sessions
Practical course
Five pratical classes of up to 15 students.
Two clinical cases with 4 sessions each and a visit to a functional evaluation laboratory.
Practical classes will be 2 hours long and the teachers are as follows:
Class 1 - Dr Manuel Almeida
Class 2 - Dra Diana Ferreira
Class 3 - Profª Cláudia Quaresma
Class 4 - Dr António Mesquita
Class 5 - Dr José Araújo Martins
Visits to laboratories will be scheduled in the week of may 1-5 according to the capacity of each place:
Respiratory and gastrointestinal function
Students should report by 10:00 to the security of CEDOC yellow building: Rua do Instituto Bacteriológico, n.ºs 5, 5-A e 5-B (near Campo dos Mártires da Pátria). Prof. Doutor Nuno Neuparth, will be responsible.
Hemodynamic laboratory
Students will be divided in two groups: 8:00-10:00 and 10:00-12:00h. Students should report to the secretary of the hemodynamic unit in the Cardiology department of Hospital Santa Cruz (Avenida Prof. Reinaldo dos Santos 2790-134 Carnaxide). Dr. Manuel Almeida will be responsible
Sports Medicine laboratory
Students should report by 9:00 to the secretary of the Sports Medicine Unit at Centro Desportivo Nacional do Jamor (Av. Pierre de Coubertin, Cruz Quebrada - Oeiras). Dr Diana Ferreira will be responsible.
Evaluation method
Minimal 9,5 values.
50% practical evaluation, 50% theorical evaluation.
Practical: 35% continuos evaluation, 15% laboratory visit report.
Theorical: 2 multiple choice tests with 20 questions, 5 answers (24-28 April and 12-16 June).
Extraordinay exams according to FCT regulations.
