Objectives
To understand how the major organic systems work, namely the cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous and renal systems, in a physiological approach (i.e., non-pathological), as well as to understand the regulatory mechanisms underneath. In particular, the student should be capable to describe the regulatory mechanisms of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, used herein as models os physiological regulation.
The student should also be able to interpret the functional meaning of the major physiological parameters.
Finally, the student will know the basic concepts related to the histological caracterization of the major tissues: epithelial, connective, nervous and muscular.
Prerequisites
- Cellular Biology course
- Anatomy course
Subject matter
Histological caracterization of epithelial, connective, muscular and nervous tissues. Hierarchic organization of nervous system from an anatomy perspective; basic principles of the Physiology of the central and autonomic nervous systems. Cardiovascular Physiology. Respiratory Physiology. Basic principles of Renal Physiology. Muscular contraction and neuromuscular control.
