Coordinator
Prof. Doutor Paulo Paixão
Education objectives
The MSc in Medical Microbiology aim to train experts in a global and multidisciplinary perspective, with an integrated and solid theoretical and practical training in the field of microbiology, namely to the understanding of genetics, physiology and biochemistry of human microbial pathogens (or other model organisms), modes of transmission of microorganisms, epidemiology of infectious diseases, and methods for its prevention. Skills are acquired for the application of more advanced laboratory diagnostic technologies, for scientific research and for quality control and certification of laboratories for Microbiology.
Degree pre-requisites
Duration: 2 years
Total credits: 120 ECTS
The curricular part with mandatory and optional curricular units correspond to 60 ECTS and the dissertation to 60 ECTS.
Access to other courses
Advanced training in Medical Microbiology will allow access to a scientific-technological development corresponding a more advanced 3rd Cycle (PhD). It may also provide access to education and areas of research and development (R e D) in National or European public health sectors, such as:
Medical centers and hospitals;
Clinical and veterinary laboratories;
Public health;
Research laboratories in the fields of Microbiology.
