Objectives
a) To identify different models and parts of the grammar;
b) To describe the main characteristics of sounds, words, sentences, utterances and texts in the Portuguese language;
c) To explain the functioning of Portuguese, through the analysis of observable data;
d) To Identify and describe distinctive characteristics of the Portuguese grammar.

Subject matter
1. Grammar and grammars: knowledge of grammar and grammatical knowledge;
2. The main characteristics of the Portuguese Grammar: 2.1. the study of the sounds : a. articulatory phonetics classification; b. phonological processes; c. prosodic aspects of Portuguese
and the structure of syllables;
2.2 The study of the words: a. lexical creativity and word formation; b. inflection, derivation and compounding in Portuguese; c. semantic properties of lexicon;
2.3. Syntax analysis: a. word classes and syntactic functions; b. sentences typology and syntactic constructions;
2.4. Semantics: nominal reference; b. tense, aspect
and modality in Portuguese;
2.5. Verbal interaction markers, discourse markers and textual cohesion and coherence;
3. Topics of Portuguese Grammar case studies.

Teaching method
This curricular unit is characterized by being a theoretical-practical level. Thus, from an initial schedule, to develop a balanced combination of theoretical and practical classes) is expected. At the beginning of the semester this information will be made available to students.
Evaluation method
As learning assessment, classroom tests (quiz exams) will be presented, with the goal of assessment the learning of the different programmatic modules. These quizzes will have a weighting of 15% in the total evaluation of the Unit. Different types of autonomous work will also be proposed. These works, which are not mandatory, will support the work in class. The weighting of the work carried out will be 5% of the final grade. Finally, 2 tests made in the class, which are mandatory, with the weight of 40% (each), will be proposed.
