Objectives
It is intended that students develop and strengthen their:
1. Ability to identify and analyse typologies and trends of migratory flows and their importance in the current European and international context;
2. Critical analysis on the relationship between power and political identity, at multiple levels of analysis (transnational, regional, national and subnational);
3. Critical analysis on reciprocal influences between political identity, social government and the design and implementation of public policies;
4. Critical analysis on the importance and consequences of the development of international migration regime(s) and the role of international institutions in this context;
5. Ability to identify, choose and apply theories that explore the relationship between political identity(ies) and the evolution of migratory flows, as well as the security / freedom binomial applied to the migrations.

Teaching method
Lectures by the responsible academic staff member, with a theoretical-practical component reflected in the analysis of academic articles (previously available to the students and organized by session), as well as
an individual oral presentation by students, based on case studies analysis (regional, national and subnational). Possibility of thematic seminars, with invited speakers.
Evaluation method
Presentation of assignments in class (30% of final grade); Essay on a topic included in the syllabus (70% of final grade).
