Objectives
a) To develop technical and conceptual skills in Musical Analysis field applicable to different periods of Music History;
b) To know the main aesthetic currents of music-theoretical thought in the period studied as well as representative compositional techniques and composers;
c) To develop skills on Musical Analysis adapted practice, adapted to the paradigms from the studied period, as well as, to develop capabilities of auditory analysis of works;
d) To contextualize in a historical, sociological and aesthetical point of view, the musical phenomena through a deep study of specific composers and representative works of the studied period respective compositional practices.

Subject matter
1. Detailed approach will be made to relevant music works from at least three Music History different periods with particular attention to transitional periods.
2. The detailed analytical study, through practice, of the techniques and aesthetics of a selected number of musical works representative of the historical periods to be studied during the semester: transition from the Classic to the Romantic era; tonality dissolution at the beginning of the 20th century, with special attention to impressionism and expressionism in Europe; aesthetic and technical revolution after the 2nd World War. Work by composers as Beethoven, Schubert, Berg, Schoenberg, Debussy, Messiaen and Ligeti, among others, will be studied.
3. New musical analysis paradigms emerged in recent years, adapted in a transversal way to different historical periods, will be presented.

Teaching method
Theoretical and practical lessons with the regular realization of practical exercises that should be accomplished outside the classroom.
Evaluation method
Active participation in thematic discussions developed during the courses and regular and successful accomplishment of exercises (40%). Accomplishment of a music analysis works (60%).
Because of the practical character of this course is mandatory the presence of the student in 75% of the classes.
