Education objectives
With this course we intend to introduce glass as a material in order to explore its potential for use in art. The course will emphasize experimentation and teamwork as well as promote individual initiatives and expressions.
It is intended to train artists and designers with deep knowledge in various areas of glass so that they can develop an artistic activity or be integrated into the frameworks of the Portuguese glass industry, in order to contribute to the increase of creativity in the glass area.
This course is also open to graduates in exact sciences, in order to train masters who can fill the gap between art and science and who can contribute to innovation in the various technological processes involving the art of glass.
It is therefore the intention and main objective of this program to function as an universally recognized center for the development and future of the most innovative glass art today. Students with sufficient intellectual curiosity and artistic talent who are enrolled in this course can expect the greatest attention, cooperation and support to develop the quality of their artistic expression in glass, whatever direction their work may take.
Those whose tendency is the application of science to the art of glass will have all the support to try new technologies, under the supervision of the teachers involved, including the visiting professors, and the interaction with the national glass industries will be stimulated.
Students accepted in this course will be those who want to define the orientation and development of their artistic work using glass or who wish to develop their activity in the field of applied science to art and its interactions. In the first case students will be encouraged to do so by highly artistic teachers in understanding the symbolic personal language of an artist. The effectiveness and impact of this visual expression with respect to the examination by the audience will often be discussed in order to develop the student''s ability to judge his or her work and direction. There will be constant teaching by as many internationally recognized specialists as possible in the many different techniques used to create shapes in glass, both traditional and emerging new possibilities.
Participants in this course will have access to a high level of technical and scientific knowledge. This is possible given that the course will be given on the Caparica campus of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa with excellent potentialities in the field of science and technology and there will be an appreciation of foreign visiting professors allowing a high internationalization.
The program will be a challenge, unique and innovative. Conditions will be given to stimulate and nurture the needs of students who have achieved competence, dedication and enthusiasm in the development of the highest level of their work.
