Objectives
Provide the students with notions about the building and assembling, testing and analysis of results in physical models. Introduction to laboratory equipment and test data collection.
Subject matter
Similarity Conditions and dimensional analysis. Reduced physical models. Types of behavior; construction of models of dams, Hydromechanical equipment, port facilities and structures under seismic action.
Measurement of displacements and deformations. The electrical and mechanical extensometry. Moire techniques. Light sources, pulsed/continuous emission, polarization, bandwidth, spatial/temporal coherence. Photoelasticity. Image processing techniques. Measurement transducers: characteristic parameters; Temperature transducers, movement (displacement, velocity and acceleration), position, forces, moments and contact. Electro-mechanical actuators, pneumatic and hydraulic. Acquisition, analysis and signal processing. Smart sensors.
Structural tests for monotonic, cyclic and dynamic loads. Structural behavior monitoring.
