Objectives

The main objective of this course is to present the main concepts and tools of the modern theory of Finance that are required to analyze corporate financial decisions. The approach used in the course combines the presentation of the theory with introductory applications of the concepts. By the end of the course, students are expected to be familiar with fundamental concepts and to be able to use them in problems.

    Teaching method

    Theoretical classes take place twice a week with a duration of 1.5 hours. The classes are dedicated to the presentation of theory by the teacher and its application in practical exercises. In addition, practical cases that represent real problems for the application of the theoretical concepts are also used. There is also a weekly practical class with a duration of 80 minutes for practical application of theory presented in theoretical classes. The reports on a practical case serve to make a detailed analysis of practical problems in small groups of students. Sets of exercises serve to give students the opportunity to self-assess their course development.

    Evaluation method

    The Final Exam is mandatory and must cover all subject matter. The weight of the final exam should be between 30 and 70%. The remaining weight may include participation in classes, intermediate tests, and / or other tests. In total, the evaluation carried out in the classroom (final exam, intermediate test) must have a weight of at least 50%.

  • Normal Season

  • Quizzes are done through Moodle. Students will have to analyze a practical case in groups of 5 elements. The intermediate and final exam do not have any query. For the student to complete the course, must have a minimum grade of 9.5 values. The final grade is calculated with the following weights:

    Search:

    Case study: 25%

    Intermediate test: 25%

  • Final Exam: 40%
  • Resort Season

    Evaluation identical to normal time

  • Improvements in Normal Season


  • Continuous assessment (and respective weightings) if the resource examination does not count 100%
  • Improvements in Time of Appeal


  • Final exam with a weighting of 100%
