Objectives

 

This course provides an introduction to the study of Financing Models and Health Contracting. At the end of the course, students should be able to:

Understand the main funding and payment models for health;

Distinguish various forms of contracting in health;

Understand the contracting process in its various aspects and dimensions; 

Obtain a set of analytical skills, in order to establish the relationship between the health needs identified and the response options of organizations providing health care;

Learn to set priorities in national, regional or organizational towards better use of resources.

Subject matter

 

Policies and health care systems funding models: an international perspective;

Health payment models: new solutions to old problems: a national perspective and international perspective. The patient classification systems as instruments of support;

Models to identify health needs and contracting;

The evolution of national and international contracting in health; 5. Types of contracting in health:

Contracting for hospital care;

Contracting for primary care;

Contracting for long term care;

Contracting for health programs;

6. Monitoring and evaluation in contracting.

Teaching method

 

Theoretical sessions;

Seminars (critical analysis and discussion of case studies);

Group work presentation and discussion.

Evaluation

Individual work (40%).

Development of an essay, up to 5 pages after research, analysis, interpretation and discussion of selected literature - group work (40%).

Attendance and class participation under continuous assessment (20%).
