Objectives

1. Describe the qualities of effective communication.

2. Name the different audiences and describe the different types of written or oral types of scientific communication; select the most appropriate type of communication depending on the audience addressed.

3. Describe the benefits of effective communication with patients and recognize that positive behaviors can be practiced and developed.

4. Prepare appropriately a manuscript to be submitted into a periodical medical journal.

5. Prepare appropriately an oral communication or a poster and present them in a scientific meeting.

6. Communicate effectively in e-mails, memos, and reports.

7. Prepare curriculum vitae.

8. List the types of communication addressed to non specialized audiences and recognize what constitutes a “story” in scientific journalism. Recognize the growing capacity of social media in communicating science and in medical education.

Teaching method

Each lesson may include:

- Lecture of no longer than 50 minutes

- Seminars

- Illustrative media visualizations

- Exercises based on simulated scenarios

- Discussion and self-reflection

- Symposium (short presentation exemplary work of the themes of the course)

- Questionnaires

- In addition to the 28-scheduled classroom hours, it is due a minimum of one hour per week of study, exercises or questionnaires carried out in the Moodle platform (e-learning system). The teacher continuously monitors all activity on e-learning system.

Evaluation method

The final classification will be obtained by weighting the following partial classifications:

I - Attendance - 30%

II - Participation in lessons and online participation - 20%

III - Mid-term - 20%

IV - Final test - 30%
