Objectives
a) To understand tourism as an element of territorial mutation in its economic, social and cultural perspectives as well as its diversity and multicultural character;
b) To analyze the touristic sector and leisure activities from an offer and demand point of view, according to the most common classifications;
c) To identify different touristic development models based on national and international examples;
d) To use the knowledge in practical cases, namely to create promotional strategies and/or touristic development;
e) To develop methodologies of analysis and diagnosis, socially, culturally and environmentally sustainable for the planning of tourism.

1) Introduction to Tourism and Leisure Geography – objectives, concepts and general notions
2) Causes and consequences of tourism and leisure in society, economy and culture
3) The importance of tourism and leisure for development and its evaluation - statistics and indicators of offer and demand
4) Motivations of the tourists and their typologies
5) Tourism, leisure and environment - sustainable tourism
6) Territorial planning in tourism and leisure
7) Recent trends in tourism - types and dynamics
8) Tourism and leisure in Portugal
9) New technologies and innovation in tourism and leisure - evolution dynamics.

Teaching method
Expositive and participative teaching; discussion of case-studies; field work.
Evaluation method
Test of all the program (60%), individual or group essay (until 3 students), based on literature and documental information, resulting from autonomous research, eventually field work (25%). Oral presentation with powerpoint (20 minutes) followed by public debate (10%).
