Objectives

a) Become aware of the wide range of written and unwritten sources mobilized to study the Portuguese Middle Ages and of the main trends of current research on the subject;
b) Develop an effective knowledge of the Portuguese medieval society through an understanding of their political, administrative, social, religious and cultural frameworks;
c) Grasp the outline of the process of affirmation and structure of medieval Portugal between the Twelfth and Fifteenth centuries;
d) Develop ability to analyze and criticize historical sources foreseeing their scientific use;
e) Develop the capacity of oral and written expression, mobilizing concepts and vocabulary belonging the medieval History

Teaching method

60% of theoretical classes (oral explanation of the syllabus) and 40% of practical classes (analysis of historiographical texts and historical documents with the participation of the students).


Evaluation method

Two written tests in classroom (50% each one, for the final evaluation) and the oral participation of the students.
