Objectives
At the end of the semester, students should be able to:
- Apply the specific instruments of interpretive reading of objects of decorative arts;
-Identify and understand the different chronologies, models and ornaments applied, of the different arts addressed, in their international and national context;
- Recognize the problems inherent in the study of Decorative Arts, its history and future projection;
- To elaborate an articulated discourse, addressing the subjects of the discipline, that demonstrates, both the solidity of the sources consulted, and the acquantaince of the specific vocabulary;
- Elaborate autonomous research based on the fundamental bibliography written on the themes.

Subject matter
1. Instruments for interpretive reading of objects of decorative arts;
2. Stone and tile coatings, plaster and masonry, both exterior and interior. Models and tastes. The Art Treaties;
3. Religious and civil furniture. International influences and national echoes;
4. The art of carving, alfarges and boiseries: chronologies, models and artists;
5. Glass production in the civil and religious context: functions and techniques
6. Ceramics: classical, the stoneware, the earthenware and the porcelain. Chronologies, dissimilarities and affinities and main producing centers;
7. Textiles: fabrics, rugs and tapestries. From Christian manufacture to Orientalism;
8. The art of metals and its multiple valences: Classic furniture, warlike equipment and civil and religious jewelery.

Teaching method
The presentation of the subject and its discussion in the classroom will be complemented by the recommended bibliography. Pdf materials will also be available. Study visits will be organized.

Evaluation method
Evaluation method
Students will be assessed based on two tests, one in the middle of the semester (30%), the other at the end (30%), a report on one of the study visits conducted (20%), attendance and participation in classes (20%). Students have to attend at least 80% of classes given. All evaluation elements are required. The late completion / delivery of any evaluation element may be penalized or not accepted.
