Objectives

1. Understanding of population as a dynamic component of societies;
2. Ability to analyse que large demographical issues for the 21st century;
3. Knowledge of the main features and trends of Portuguese demography, within the EU space;
4. Ability to perceive demographical challenges in an integrated way, articulating them with other relevant socioeconomic components;
5. Ability to analyse ongoing demographic dynamics;
6. Knowledge of demographic methods and analytical tools and ability to apply them, treating population \"static\" and \"dynamic\" variables separately;
7. Ability to perform territorialized analyses of basic sociodemographic characterization;
8. Ability to communicate demographic knowledge and the results of demographical analyses in an accurate and significant way.

Teaching method

Teaching method:
- 1 lesson weekly (2 h) with a expositive profile, about theoretical material with teaching argumentation and presentation and discussion of texts, and demonstrative exercises.
- 1 lesson weekly (2 h) with a practical profile, including the resolution of practical exercises (6 exercises in each academic year).
The annual distribution of time between expositive and practical lessons is equivalent, and students presence is mandatory.
Method of evaluation:
Group Exercise to submit at the end of the school time schedule, with mandatory oral discussion (40 %). The scoring criteria are explained at the beginning of the year and are listed in a separate document. As a rule, the profile of this work corresponds to a paper submitted to a scientific meeting.
All students will be asked to go through a evaluation test (40%).



Evaluation method

The presentation of all Practical Work Resolutions is also mandatory (20 %).From the 6 practical work, the student will be asked to present 3.
