Objectives

The main objective of this curricular unit is to provide students with the basic training and knowledge that allows to problematize issues related to international migration in the context of globalization, from a sociological perspective.
Expected learning outcomes are:
1. Knowledge of, and ability to, discuss issues related to international migration in the context of globalization;
2. Ability to intervene in a critical and informed way on issues related to migration
3. Ability to communicate accurate and meaningful knowledge about the topics taught in the course.

Prerequisites

To have accomplished a minimum of 48 ECTS credits

Teaching method

Some classes are based on theoretical exposés and others on active in class discussions. The latter consist in (i) discussions of texts based on empirical research; and (ii) of students´ work of literature review and problematization of a relevant research topic.

Evaluation method

Evaluation and weighting for the final grade are as follows: continuous evaluation of the student´s participation in in class discussions - relevance of the student´s interventions and contribution to the quality of the discussion in practical classes will be taken into account (15%); presentation and discussion of a short essay based on literature review and problematization of a relevant topic for research (15%); short written essay (20%); one test in class (50%).
