Objectives
To understand the concepts: material heritage, movable heritage, architectonic heritage, integrated heritage.
To understand and to analyze , in the Portuguese territory, the permanence of integrated and functional
heritages.
To understand and analyze, in Portuguese territory, the permanence of integrated heritages that that have lost their functions.
To understand and analyze, in Portuguese territory, recovery attempts to integrate temporarily disintegrated heritage.
To understand the particularities of the conservation and restauration of the different types of heritage.
To grasp the links between heritage and city anda heritage and landscape.
To grasp the links between Heritage and museum.
To elect case studies for application of knowledge.

Subject matter
Definition of concepts: the material heritage, architectural heritage, movable heritage, integrated heritage.
Case studies of integrated heritages with a high degree of conservation and relative permanence of function:
the Convent of Cardaes in Lisbon.
Case studies of integrated heritage remade nowadays: the Convent of Tibães Braga.
Case studies of musealization of integrated heritage: the ancient royal palaces; the National Tile Museum.
Refunctionalisation of architectural heritage: the current uses artistic re-creation.
Disconnected heratages: empty churches and museums objects and collections.
Hidden heritage: demolitions and survival. Case study: the former Convent of the Trinity, in Lisbon.
Technical requirements of safeguarding and conservation.
The heritage, the city and the landscape.

Teaching method
Seminars will be theoretical-practical, encompassing the reading of texts of primordial relevance, enlisting the
cooperation of reputed experts, with related field trips.
Evaluation method
Each student will prepare and propose its own personal participation program in the seminar, as well as its
evaluation, within the proposed framework.
