Objectives

To promote:
a) the understanding and capacity to apply the concepts and methodologies of demographic analysis at migratory phenomena;
b) critical knowledge of data sources on migration;
c) awareness of the main global demographic trends, namely migration tends, and discussion on the challenges associated.
Develop the ability to:
d) identify themes and build research questions;
e) transmit synthetic and critical knowledge, written and orally, mobilizing relevant empirical and theoretical information;
f) apply scientific knowledge to non-academic contexts, strengthening the capacity for dialogue with policy makers, private actors, etc.

Teaching method

The sessions will have an expositive and a practical component, focusing on the discussion of selected themes. There will be also practical sessions, consisting of exercises for the application of knowledge, presentation of essays or research projects and discussion of selected topics.

Evaluation method

The evaluation will take into account students’ participation in the discussions, the result of a written exam and the presentation a written work and its discussion in class. The paper shall have 15 pages maximum (letter 12, double space) and must be delivered, in a word file, via electronic mail.
The final classification will be calculated using the following formula:
NF = (P x 0,2) + (A x 0,3) + (RT x 0,5)
Where P means participation in class discussions, A means attendance, and RT means written presentation and oral discussion of a research theme.
