Objectives

To develop theoretical and critical thinking and evaluatory skills and insights on literary translation both as a process and as a result;
To apply knowledge and skills in translating a range of literary texts and genres;
To demonstrate originality and/or creativity in translation practices;
To identify, conceptualise and define new and abstract problems and issues.

B2 (QECR) German

Subject matter

Critical analysis of translations (poetry and prose);
Critical and comparative analysis of different translations of the same text from the same and from different periods;
To identify problems and difficulties at the lexical, semantic, stylistic, pragmatic and cultural levels;
To reflect about methodological and epistemological questions underlying literary texts;
To investigate three types of translation: Literal translation, free translation and literary translation.
Translation of a specific text to be chosen.

Individual work as well as teamwork;
Discussion and comparison of short texts in the classroom.
Cognitive translation activities.
Ideas for themes, topics and other subjects around which to focus class work, discussion groups.
Assiduity, participation in classwork and contribution towards teambuilding.



Evaluation method

Two written tests (together 50%). Production of a written research paper (10-15pages) (50%)
