Objectives

a) To develop linguistic, extralinguistic and terminological proficiency in specialized translation;
b) To develop autonomous skills in technical translation and revision with the help of specific software (including CAT tools);
c) To become more knowledge-based and more learned in quality control techniques with the help of specific software;
d) To become more knowledge-based and more learned in terminological research techniques; documentation, creation and management of terminological resources with the help of specific software;
e) To develop skills for critical thinking for translation practice and research.

1. Introduction
1.1. Introduction to technical translation: basic concepts and translation competences
1.2. The cycle of the Technical Translation Project

2. Specialized language

2.1. Introduction to hardware and software translation: technical language and constraints and translation practice of manuals, with the creation of quality control reports
2.2. Introduction to law translation: law systems, law language and terminology and translation practice of contracts and social services reports, with the creation of a specialized glossary

Teaching method

Practical and theoretical classes, using Information and communication technologies and translation tools, academic and terminological databases and digital library resources to provide support for translation studies research and practice.

Evaluation method

Evaluation: individual translation with comment (35%), written test (45%), and a Continuous assessment (20%): attendance (70%), participation in lessons, homework and team tasks.
