Objectives
1.Assist you to develop your communicative skills in English.
Your aim is proficiency as described for level C2 in:
Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (chapters 4 and 5).
Advanced language practice will partly be based on analysis of texts and professional topics such as those referred to in ‘Subject matter’ (below).
2.Practise learning skills aiming to enhance autonomous and continuing professional development. This includes the abilities to reflect on and describe the syntactic and functional systems of English as well as a deeper ethical and cultural understanding of practical application.

Subject matter
The course addresses general and academic writing and speaking skills. Analysis of academic texts and input on academic writing are used to focus on appropriate style, content, organisation and use of language . Learning and assessment tasks provide regular oportunities for written and spoken expression and development of language skills and knowledge, including:
Writing - abstracts, literature reviews
Speaking - presentation skills, pronunciation
Lexis - appropriate style and register, cohesion and coherence
Grammar - articles, dependent prepositions, conciseness, impersonal language
Editing/reviewing - identifying and correcting errors

Teaching method
Communicative methodology with a task-based approach, which seeks to stimulate interaction and promote increasingly autonomous learning.Discussion is a key element often preceded by reading or listening input and/or analysis and followed up by written work/further research by students. Skills-based tasks require both linguistic and extra-linguistic competences. Inductive approach for extending grammatical and lexical knowledge. Frequent use of the internet and audio-visual materials.
Evaluation method
Assessment is continuous and formative consisting of:
2 written texts of different types – 50%
1 spoken task plus continuous assessment of oral skills – 35%
C2 proficiency test - 15%
Minimum attendance: 66% of classes
